BELFAIR

BELFAIR is the annual Belgian fair for practice enterprises, organised by COFEP. It is one of the largest trade fairs of its type in Europe. BELFAIR usually welcomes more than 230 practice enterprises and 4.500 participants in 2 days. The exhibitors are practice enterprises from secondary schools, higher education and adult training.

The main activity at BELFAIR is trading with other practice enterprises (B2B) and registering personal purchases (B2C) of trainees or visitors.

The exhibitors use contemporary tools to register their sales. They enter their orders directly in an ERP system or in the Trade Fair Point-of-Sale (cash registration system). They use modern tools during the sales pitches and present their range and/or promotions in an original way to their customers.

Since the practice enterprise is a concept of learning by doing, virtual money is used and the goods are not really shipped. However, all payments are made in banking software and the entire document flow is completed.

How to participate in the COFEP Challenges

Step 1: Choose your challenge(s)

You decide which challenge(s) you would like to participate in. You can participate in one or more COFEP Challenges.

Are you working with a class or a larger group? You can also divide the group into different teams. Each team chooses a challenge, develops its own solution and submits it separately.

Phase 1: Develop and submit your solution

Analyse the challenge and develop a well-founded solution as a team.

Present your solution in a video of no more than 3 minutes. You are free to choose the format of your video: a pitch, presentation, demonstration or a combination of these.

Make sure your video clearly shows:

  • how you analysed the problem;
  • which ideas or possible solutions you explored;
  • which solution you ultimately propose;
  • why you chose this solution;
  • what impact you aim to achieve with your solution.

The content, your thought process and the reasoning behind your solution are more important than the quality of the video recording or editing.

Send us your video by 15 January 2027 at belfair2027@cofep.be. You will receive a confirmation by email.

Phase 2: Preselection

A jury will assess all submissions based on the following criteria:

  • analysis and understanding of the problem;
  • quality and feasibility of the solution;
  • reasoning and application of research;
  • creativity and innovative character;
  • expected impact of the solution.

The 10 best teams per challenge will advance to the live final at BELFAIR. The finalists will be announced on 1 February 2027. Selected teams will be notified by email, and the finalists will also be published on this page.

Phase 3: Live final at BELFAIR

The selected teams will present their solution live during BELFAIR 2027 on Thursday 18 or Friday 19 March 2027 at Nekkerhal in Mechelen.

During the final, you will have a maximum of 5 minutes to further explain the solution presented in your preselection video and convince the jury. You may use supporting materials such as a presentation, mood board, diagram, demonstration or other visual material. The use of video is not permitted during the final. The presentation will be followed by a short Q&A session with the jury. Your solution may have been further developed or improved since the preselection. However, the basic concept of your original submission must remain the same.

Together with each finalist team, we will determine on which of the two BELFAIR days the team will participate. You will then receive all practical information about the final by email.

For each challenge, one winner will be selected on each BELFAIR day.
